WHAT TO WEAR WHEN YOU’RE PHOTOGRAPHING ASTRO

One of my goals this year was to learn how to shoot astro, aka the stars in the sky at night. When I flew over to New Zealand for the Lake Wanaka Instameet a couple of months ago, I was lucky to meet some landscape photographers who generously showed me a few tricks of their trade. Ever since I have been honing my skills and organising regular adventures with friends to get better at shooting astro. But when I was first photographing astro on the shores of Lake Wanaka, it struck me that no one gave me any advice on what I should wear – apart from warm clothes. Whilst there are free tutorials online teaching photographers how to shoot astro (keep an eye out for my tutorial soon!), there is no information about what photographers should wear. I found myself wearing sneakers, three pairs of socks, jeans, two jumpers, a wool coat, a scarf and a beanie - totally inappropriate gear for shooting astro.

So I’ve teamed up with one of my favourite outdoor brands Kathmandu to compile the perfect packing list for photographers shooting astro.

• Beanie by Poler Stuff • Head Torch by Kathmandu • Gloves by Kathmandu • Thermal top and leggings by Kathmandu • Thermal socks by Kathmandu • Sneakers by New Balance • Pants by Bassike • Jumper by ASOS • Jacket by Kathmandu
