THE GRAND OPENING OF IBIS ADELAIDE

No surprises here – I have a soft spot for South Australia, see here and here. There is something extraordinary about the relaxed lifestyle, indulgent food and wine, friendly locals, wide open spaces and diverse landscapes I just can’t seem to get enough of. I very happily found myself back in South Australia recently for the grand opening of Accor’s brand new ibis Adelaide. Flying down with Tigerair, who has direct flights to Adelaide starting from $45, I couldn’t wait to get down to explore the new ibis, and I wasn’t disappointed!

Following a $70 million build by Hines Property Group, it’s the first new build ibis in Australia since 2008. It’s also the largest ibis hotel in Australia. With 311 stylish guest rooms and its central Adelaide location, ibis Adelaide is the perfect place to stay when you’re in town. Speaking of which, if you’re staying at ibis and looking for some great places to eat and drink, check out my recommendations below:

Borsa Pasta Cucina Situated in Adelaide's original stock exchange district. Borsa offers a truly Italian experience over a nice, relaxing and well deserved lunch of handmade pasta.

Adelaide Central Markets A visit to Adelaide isn’t complete without stocking up on fresh local produce from the Central Markets. Offering the finest food and wine that South Australia has to offer, I dare you to walk out empty handed.

Rigoni’s Bistro Opening its doors in 1979, Rigoni’s is known as Adelaide’s original business lunch haunt. Complemented by their relaxed bistro atmosphere, great service and superb wines, the Coffin Bay oysters are a must!

Udaberri Pintxos y Vino Reflecting the Basque custom of spiking a toothpick through a bar snack, the kitchen prepares platters of pintxos that are paraded by waiting staff and grabbed by customers. Discarded toothpicks on a customers’ plate are counted by staff to determine how much is owed. Vamos!

Clever Little Tailor An intimate bar found on Peel Street where customers can enjoy quality beverages, this vintage store has been decorated with old school décor to create its unique atmosphere.

Chihuahua Bar A mashup of styles from Coastal and Northen Mexico, Chihuahua Bar serves up whimsical and cheeky offerings of cocktails, tequila, mezcal food and style.
