A trip to Bali is not complete without a visit to Ayana Rock Bar. Located along the 1.3km coastline of the Ayana Resort, a 77-hectare property that features 78 private luxury villas and a 290-room hotel, it has been heralded as one of the world’s best bars by likes of CNN and The New York Times. Ayana Rock Bar opens at 4pm daily, and I would suggest getting there at least 45 to 30 minutes before it opens to avoid waiting in a queue for more than an hour in the hot Balinese sun. If you are a guest at the Resort you get VIP access to the bar and skip the queue. Worth it if you want a bit of luxury in your life. In addition, unless you are a guest at the resort you are unable to enjoy a drink at the main bar which is a little disappointing but also totally understandable.

Ayana Rock Bar is located at the bottom of a huge cliff, so there are two ways to get there – the first is by walking down a hundred or so steps (too easy) or via the inclinator that traverses the cliff-face which takes about eight people per trip (very cool). There is also a ‘smart attire’ dress code, so leave your flip flops and Bitang singlets at home. The cocktails are a little more expensive here than elsewhere in Bali, but with an immaculate view of the sun setting on the shimmering ocean, what you spend is the last thing on your mind
