MY SECRET TRAVEL ACCESSORY (AND WHY YOU NEED THIS TOO)

I think it’s time I let you in on a little secret of mine - my secret travel accessory. Last year I was enjoying a cup of drip coffee in Hanoi whilst I was catching up on emails on my phone when I realised my data and global roaming was switched on. Um, how did that happen? Disaster? Absolutely. And it got me thinking. How many other travellers like me find themselves in the same conundrum? Coming home to an obscene phone bill is something I want to avoid and you too! It can turn the memories of a perfect holiday into a nightmare very quickly.

You know when I travel through some of the most remote and unexpected destinations in the world, such as Iceland? And I still manage to share my adventures with you on social media and this blog? Well it’s because I always pack my secret travel accessory – my portable pocket wi-fi device, from WiWander. And it has literally shaped the way I travel.

Most recently when I was in Iceland, there was no free or paid wi-fi available on the road so I felt very relieved I already had my portable device on me. If you’ve been to Iceland, you’ll know what I am talking about. If you haven’t, well let’s just say wi-fi is essential as soon as you leave Reykjavik.

With this in mind, I am excited to share 5 reasons why you need to get your hands on my secret travel accessory for your next trip. Because let’s be honest, we all want to avoid unwanted data charges abroad.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE Probably the best thing about taking a my secret travel accessory on your next trip abroad is being able to organise and rent a portable wi-fi device with WiWander before you leave. It’s so easy – you simply book online, it gets delivered straight to you and when you get back, a courier picks it up.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE Forget getting lost in a city you’re unfamiliar with trying to find a portable wi-fi device to buy for the duration of your trip. Forget pestering café staff in airports for their wi-fi password when you don’t buy anything from them. Forget worrying about buying multiple sim cards when you’re travelling through more than one country. Because you already have your wi-fi device on you, you have one less thing to stress about.

EXPLORING OFF THE BEATEN TRACK If you’re anything like me, you like to avoid the tourist traps. You’re either hiking a remote mountain, road tripping across a vast landscape or swimming at an isolated beach spot. When I was in Iceland, my secret travel accessory was an absolute essential. As we set out each day in the car, we didn’t have to rely on screen grabbing maps on our phone before we left or using an outdated GPS in the car. I honestly have no idea how we would have found half the things we did if it wasn’t for our portable wi-fi device

WHERE YOU TRAVEL Obviously where you travel can have a huge impact on the availability of wi-fi. Lucky for you, the WiWander can be used anywhere in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Korea, USA, Malaysia and Thailand. Ahhhh-mazing.

STAY CONNECTED I love switching off more than anyone else I know, but sometimes it’s nice to keep my family and friends, as well as you guys, up to date with my travels. What I loved most about having a wi-fi device at the ready was that I could share my travels in real time on Snap Chat, instead of waiting until I found some free wi-fi. This is always a risk because I’ve lost my Snaps. Very annoying. It’s also great for sharing photos live on Instagram instead of scheduling for a later date.
