Planning a holiday or a stop over in Bangkok? Researching online to find somewhere convenient and central to stay? Feeling overwhelmed by all the choices and prices? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions don’t worry, you’re not alone. Booking accommodation can be daunting; especially if you haven’t been to the destination you’re planning on visiting, and even more so if you’re time poor. Navigating meetings with travel agents, reading travel magazines, asking friends and colleagues for advice and spending hours trawling online booking sites can be arduous, confusing and tricky.

And that’s where I come in! It’s my job to take the guesswork out of travelling – flights, accommodation, transfers, stopovers, delays – so you can actually enjoy the destination.

I was recently a guest at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao in Bangkok. If you’re looking for accommodation in Bangkok that is centrally located, offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the chaotic city, has state of the art facilities, modern guest rooms and offers convenient access to the airport, then I highly recommend you stay at Centara. “Why?” I hear you ask. Simply because...

  • Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao is conveniently located close to the airport. During peak hour it can take 40 minutes to travel to and from the airport, and on Sundays it only takes 20 minutes. In a city where it usually takes 90 minutes to get anywhere, the location of Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao is considered more than ideal.
  • With 565 rooms and suites at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, there is no shortage of style or choices. Modern, open planned and hugely inviting, key features include a marble bath, huge windows looking out to the city of Bangkok, daily newspaper, fluffy bathrobes and a rainforest shower.
  • If you’re looking for opulence consider booking a Club room, which is situated on the top five levels of the hotel. You’ll also be given VIP access to the Club Lounge and complimentary wifi.
  • Bangkok has some of the best shopping in the world. If you want to splash some baht, all you need to do is take the elevator at Central Grand to the Mezzanine Level, and walk along the quick access path to Central Plaza; a huge shopping mecca with stores including Zara, Topshop, Forever 21. Rumour has it H&M is currently on the waiting list to have a store at Central Plaza because it’s one of the best shopping centres in the city.
  • If you like dim sum you’re in the right hotel. Locals flock to Dynasty Chinese Restaurant for some of the best dim sum in the city. With dim sum buffet on weekends, the 13 private rooms fill up quickly so remember to book in advance if you can. Failing that, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Concierge will always be able to find hotel guests a table.
  • Bangkok does rooftop restaurants and bars to perfection. Take the elevator up to the 24th floor and enjoy the panoramic views from Blue Sky. Ensure you order the Seared Japanese miyazaki striploin – it’s the most mouth watering beef I’ve eaten in my entirely life and perfectly seasoned.
  • I always say you can tell the standard of a hotel by its breakfast buffet offering and the Chatuchak Café at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao serves up one of the best breakfasts I’ve experienced. With the choice of American, Chinese, Thai and Japanese there is something to suit all discerning palettes.
  • I’ve now become accustomed to exercising every day when I’m travelling. I just get on with it and try to exercise first thing in the morning or after sunset/before dinner in the early evenings. The fitness centre at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao is state of the art and I highly enjoyed running on the treadmill to the view of a tropical garden outside. Speaking of which, I was so surprised when I discovered the outdoor pool, surrounded by tropical plants and trees. It is an oasis in the middle of a chaotic city with a population of 6.3 million people and is the perfect respite to escape the hustle and bustle of being a tourist.
  • After settling into your room and getting to experience all that Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao has to offer, it’s time to set your sites on exploring the city. The Sky Train is conveniently located near the hotel. A time friendly and cool alternative to getting stuck in traffic and sitting in a hot Tuk Tuk, the Sky train is easy to navigate and gives you direct access to major parts of the city. If you only have a couple of days to spare, I recommend sticking around the Siam area, which is perfect for exploring the shopping district (Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Square) and very close to the Grand Palace where you can also hop on a long boat and sail past Wat Arun.

Bonus Tip: During the wet monsoon season, which starts in April and finishes in October, Bangkok will experience monsoon rain and storms in the afternoon. If you find yourself in Bangkok during these months, avoid jumping in a taxi in the afternoon because traffic literally stops or being outdoors where possible. Use the Sky Train or Underground and if you can’t avoid being outdoors, do what the locals do. Find a covered spot and enjoy the rain until it stops – perfect for people watching. The monsoon storms usually last an hour or two, with heavy rain, lightening and thunder so be prepared for some cracking noises, it’s incredible! And remember to embrace your wet shoes because they will get sopping wet if you get caught in the downpour even for a minute. But it’s all part of the fun!
