MY TOP 10 ADVENTURES TO EXPERIENCE IN TRAVEL IN 2015

The start of the New Year is a great place to look at what travel trends will influence and inspire where we travel and what we do on our travels. I was recently asked by boutique booking website Alluxia.com to share my thoughts on what I thought would be the biggest travel trend in 2015, which you can read here. It’s an interesting read with the likes of Georgia Rickard, editor of Australian Traveller magazine and travel journalist David Prior contributing their thoughts.

The talk of trends in travel has really stuck in my mind so I thought I would do a bit of research as well as look back on my own experiences to compile my Top Ten Adventures To Experience in Travel in 2015.

WALKING TOURS IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA A couple of years ago, I went on a three day tour exploring Kings Canyon, Uluru and the Rock Domes. Hiking around Uluru was a bucket list moment. Nine kilometres in circumference, it takes just over two hours to walk the base of this giant red rock. But whatever season you go, make sure you wear a fly net.

SKYDIVING IN QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND Whilst this adventure-seeking thrill has been around for a long time, it’s gaining a lot more notoriety for those wishing to experience nature whilst skydiving. Think skydiving over snow-capped mountains in the middle of summer in New Zealand.

TREKKING TO CHOQUEQUIRAO IN PERU One of the lesser known treks in Peru, the 45km hike to the lost Inca city of Choquequirao is known to make the Machu Picchu hike look like a walk in the park – and that’s coming from the locals.

HELI SKIING OVER THE REMARKABLES IN NEW ZEALAND If black run aren’t enough for the adventurist in you, why not go heli skiing off piste? My favourite spot? The top of the Remarkables in New Zealand where I got to spend half a day being dropped on top of mountains only to ski down untouched mountainsides and the freshest of fresh powder.

HOT AIR BALLOONING IN CAPPADOCIA, TURKEY I’ve never been in a hot air balloon but I couldn’t think of a more picturesque place in the world to go. Just check this out.

EXTREME KAYAKING IN TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA Extreme kayaking in the south west of Tasmania is one of the most beautiful and adventurous things I’ve ever done. Think 100km winds, intense rain and squalls with just a splash of sunshine. Completely off the grid, there’s nothing but you, the sky, the water and your kayak. Heaven.

CATAMARAN EXCURSIONS IN DALYAN, TURKEY I love the water and to be able to embark on a catamaran excursion along the rocky caves in Dalyan would be a thrill seekers dream. Tours usually take several days.

CYCLE THE SKELETON COAST IN NAMIBIA Now not every adventure has to be for the faint hearted. Why no set out on this beginners trek? With a distance of 45km, along the way you’ll spot wildlife, hike the world’s tallest sand dune and meet the Himba tribe.

CLIMB MT FUJI IN JAPAN Mt Fuji is to be conquered, not looked at. Tighten your hiking boots (buy a pair this year, they’ll be the best adventure investment you make) and walk to the top – or as far as you can get. You’ll love the vista at every vantage point along the way.

TOP 10 ADVENTURES TO EXPERIENCE Morocco is a wild place full of colour, smells and sounds. To escape the hustle and bustle, catch a three hour bus from Marrakech to the seaside town of Essaouira where you’ll have waves for hours at a time all to yourself.
